Twinkies Gone & Many in the U.S. Contemplate Suicide

Hostess Twinkies, Ho Hos fly off shelves

"The shelves at the Wonder Hostess Bakery Thrift Shop in Glendale on Friday were nearly bare as customers made runs on Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs after the iconic snack food company asked a judge for permission to go out of business and lay off 18,500 workers nationwide.

At the Glendale plant on San Fernando Road, 138 bakery workers will lose their jobs, but others, including delivery drivers, will also be affected, although the total number has yet to be determined, said Hostess Brands spokeswoman Tammy Taylor.

"Everybody will eventually lose their jobs, some sooner than others," Taylor said, noting that a small group of employees are being kept on board to clean up and close the plant.

By 11 a.m. Friday, many of Hostess' most popular treats, including Twinkies and cupcakes, had been scooped off the shelves. Signs apologizing for the lack of supplies were inside the store.  ....."

Back in the early days of the 'Cold War' I worked for one of the many satellite organizetions which furnished the NSA with much of its classified communications information.  It was a fascinating job, but even back then I was aware of the possible excesses of this national security organization.

The "Monsanto Rider": Are Biotech Companies About to Gain Immunity from Federal Law?

"While many Americans were firing up barbecues and breaking out the sparklers to celebrate Independence Day, biotech industry executives were more likely chilling champagne to celebrate another kind of independence: immunity from federal law.

A so-called "Monsanto rider," quietly slipped into the multi-billion dollar FY 2013 Agricultural Appropriations bill, would require – not just allow, but require - the Secretary of Agriculture to grant a temporary permit for the planting or cultivation of a genetically engineered crop, even if a federal court has ordered the planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed. All the farmer or the biotech producer has to do is ask, and the questionable crops could be released into the environment where they could potentially contaminate conventional or organic crops and, ultimately, the nation's food supply. . . . .  

.....· It's a back-door amendment of a statute. This rider, quietly tacked onto an appropriations bill, is in effect a substantial amendment to USDA's governing statute for GE crops, the Plant Protection Act. If Congress feels the law needs to be changed, it should be done in a transparent manner by holding hearings, soliciting expert testimony and including full opportunity for public debate.

If we allow this "Monsanto Rider" to be slipped into the FY 2013 Agricultural Appropriations bill, consumers and farmers will lose what little control we have now over what we plant and what we eat.

As Bill Maher points out in this clip from his show, President Obama has broken his campaign promise to label genetically engineered food. Whereas in 2007, he said GMOs should be labeled, now his campaign says, "[S]ome Americans want more information to help them choose their food. . . . ."
 
Not only Americans, but the people of the world should become aware of the fact that Monsanto is undoubtedly the most evil corporation on the planet.

Monsanto May Drop GE Corn Investment in Thailand

"Agribusiness giant Monsanto, a leading developer of genetically modified (GM) crops, has threatened to scrap its plans to invest in GM corn production in Thailand unless the government lifts its ban on open field trials and the commercialisation of transgenic crops.

Poomin Trakoontiwakorn, director of Monsanto's Southeast Asia technology development division, said the US-based company had begun shifting its operation from Thailand to India and the Philippines, where the commercial planting of GM corn and cotton has been approved.

``Over the past four years, we have tried to convince the public and the government to embrace GMOs, but to no avail. So we can't think about expanding our business here,''

Thailand may be a small country, and admitedly has a few political problems, but obviously has no trouble recognizing a rat when it sees one.
