The repeal of DADT is a landmark event for our country. HBO's upcoming documentary should be excellent if it is anything like ones of the past. Perhaps this in not part of the story, but having served in the late 70's, early 80's as a gay man and eventually being forcibly separated from service under a new policy established by the SECNAV during that time: see GAO report B-247235; this document details DADT and previous discharge issues regarding homosexuals. I loved my job , was highly trained and of course found the process humiliating. I have not seen the documentary and perhaps homosexuals that served before 1992 are mentioned. I think it is important to remind people that more than 15k gay and lesbians were forcibly discharged between 1980 and 1992, often with less than an honorable discharge. Before 1980, the discharges were often carried out in a much more severe manner.
