One of the most fascinating of the many water birds here in Thailand are the Lily-Trotters, known locally as 'nok kwawk' [Northern Lanna-Thai dialect]. There are a number which live in a nearby klong [waterway] and often drop by to strut around the garden in search of insects. They arrive singly, in pairs or occasionally with young chicks in tow.
In this video the unique relationship between male and female African lily-trotters and their offspring in this fascinating clip from the BBC series Trials of Life with David Attenborough.
