Fitna is a film by Dutch politician Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch parliament. The movie offers his views on Islam and the Qur’an. The film’s title comes from the Arabic word fitna [ فتنة ] which is used to describe “disagreement and division among people”, or a “test of faith in times of trial”. Fitna was released to the Internet on 27 March 2008
And Jihad Watch wrote yesterday: "Fitna “could be a film by the Mujahideen”
Pretty close to the truth. The formerly UK-based jihadist hits the nail on the head: for all the rage from Muslims about how Fitna “links Islam with violence,” that link has already been made by the jihadists themselves. And have the more moderate Moslems condemned their violent brethren? The jihadists always quote the Qur’an to justify their actions — it wasn’t as if Geert Wilders had to go hunting in the Qur’an for verses that matched those actions.
Yet in all the furor over the film, from the EU, the UN, the OIC, and everyone else, no one seems to have picked up on that point. Being politically correct with extremist Moslems [or extremist Christians, etc] does a disservice to the rest of the thinking world. Religious fanatics are EXTREMISTS, and they will say or do anything, including wholesale slaughter, to further their version of 'the Truth'.
Video-hosting site LiveLeak pulled the controversial film Fitna Friday afternoon after more than 3 million hits, citing a barrage of threats to their staff. [Of course copies had already been made by netizens and are now available all over the web.]
Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers.
This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.
Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture.
We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.
So it would appear that the more extreme members of the Moslem community continue to live up to their reputation of attempting to silence any and all dissent or criticism. All the more reason for the rest of the world to be aware of what happens when stupidity is mixed with religious zealotry.
[And speaking of stupidity, it is worth noting that Jehovah had a little fireside chat with G.W. Bush and granted His divine blessing on the invasion of Iraq. More religious bullshit.]
